Where it all started
When I was little, my family used to go and visit my grandparents in Zimbabwe once a year. I would spend my days with my grandmother, ‘Tinker’, in her sewing room, watching as she lovingly stitched together the most beautiful wedding dresses and bridesmaid’s dresses for her clients. I’d sit next to her, designing my own wedding dress and my bridesmaids’ dresses. Every day I had a new idea for the dress I would wear one day, and these ideas have never ceased to fill my imagination.
After studying Fashion Design and working as a Fashion Buyer for six years, I decided I wanted to see the designs I kept imagining come to life in material form; I wanted to design wedding dresses for brides who were looking for something modern and new, with an element of fashion.
Emily D. Designs was created as a result of this desire, using my middle name as my Granny Tinker so often did.
